The first grasses to "green up" in late winter offer an attractive change of taste to mule deer. These grasses often offer very little nutritional value. The appearance of forbes on the landscape means better nutrition for deer. Diversity of vegetation is the key to good habitats. Photo by Phil Douglass, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources
