Black-footed ferret by Crystal Ross, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources
Utah released a handful of black-footed ferrets as part of the continued recovery efforts to reintroduce this endangered species in the western United States. The black-footed ferret was thought to be extinct twice in the 1980s. The last remaining 18 ferrets were captured back then and have been used in captive breeding programs. Utah has been involved in the ferrets' reintroduction since 1999. These ferrets were just released in suitable habitat in the Uintah Basin.
